Happy Holidays! Play Readers will meet Jan. 6

Playwrights of Denton will NOT meet Dec. 16, as no playwright has requested time to share anything. So have happy holidays, and we'll see if anyone has anything to read on Jan. 20, 2015.

Last week, Play Readers met to read John Patrick Shanley's Tony- and Pulitzer-Prize winning Doubt. At our next meeting, Jan. 6, 2015, at 7 pm at the Campus Theatre, we will be celebrating the 9th anniversary of the first Play Readers meeting (remember, old-timers--the Emily Fowler library on that cold, cold night when we kept getting "shushed" for projecting too loudly?)! Please bring treats, if you'd like.

Break a leg to Play Readers Pat Watson, Rachel Rhodes, John Evarts, Travis Barth, and Karen Gossett, who will open tonight in DCT's holiday presentation of Dickens' A Christmas Carol (directed by Play Reader Bryan Patrick with staff support from Play Readers Kevin Wickersham, Mark Jadrych, Ash Robbins, Elsie Barrow, Melissa Sims, Dr. Linda Rubin, and Vanessa Welch). Performances are this weekend and next--www.dentoncommunitytheatre.com for info and tickets.

The Campus Theatre will be closed Dec. 22-Jan. 4. Hope your holidays are merry, bright, and restful!

The next meeting of Playwrights of Denton is scheduled for Dec. 16. Please email thedctteam@campustheatre.com if you have something to bring.

Play Readers will meet Nov. 4 (unless we're washed out)

Play Readers is planning to meet Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 7 pm at the Campus Theatre to read a play out loud--but with all the rain that we may have, let's just cancel if we're still under a flash flood warning at 6 pm. Some of us old-timers remember the Tuesday night when the Square was completely cut off from the rest of the town by a flash flood--no risking of life, limb, or car transmissions, please!

Last week, in honor of Halloween, we read Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit.

The next meeting of Playwrights of Denton is scheduled for Nov. 18, but we'll need assurances that we'll have several men in attendance to read Claud's new draft.

DCT's MainStage production of The Best Man opens this Friday and runs the next two weekends. It's directed by Play Reader Brad Speck, and the cast includes Play Readers John Rodgers, Johnny Williams, Johnny and Amber Bryant, Susanne Coffey, Wes Porter, Karen Gossett, Bryan Thomas Patrick, Jim Stodola, and Dan Creson.

The Best Man is about the back-room machinations of party politics in a fictional presidential election by Gore Vidal. While it will open after tomorrow's Election Day, please exercise your Constitutional right and vote on Nov. 4th (unless you already have)!
